Hello and thank you for reading!
In recent months, I’ve read some beautiful prose and poems on Substack, and felt inspired to ‘join the club.’
I write a lot. Notes for and from lectures. Course material. Website updates. Newsletters… not like the poetry I wrote often during my thirties. Keeping my writing fresh and alive requires an ongoing commitment, just like any art practice. And keeping it alive is the creative spark; is effortlessness, allowing and play.
So…I’ve also been attending creative writing classes to experience more freedom of expression again; to write in a way that AI can’t. Imperfectly, disjointed, random and poetic. I like to meander. The opposite to pressure, it’s when fresh ideas come.
Now, I called my Substack ‘Monday Painter’ and wrote quite a long meandering rationale. However, after sending out my first piece – only took five weeks to write – I discovered a guy who is known as the Monday Painter! Uh-oh.
I’m wondering whether to choose a new name.
I want my writing to be about art and soulful living for thinkers and painters. I want to nurture and inspire creativity through the calm of contemplation and stories of true creative expression. I want to share more about my awesome students, and my own aspirations as an artist and offer the latest on my Painter’s Path Programs. I’d love for my posts to be ones of poignancy and poetics but there’s no recipe for those qualities, only to get out of the way!
On Substack, there’s the option to subscribe free or paid. Paid subscribers will get to come along to Fireside Conversations via Zoom where we talk about art. For the first 6 months at least, everyone will receive the posts. Well, that’s the plan. Let’s see what unfolds.
Click HERE and you’ll land on my Substack. Please take a look at my first article, posted earlier today. I’d appreciate your thoughts.
For your art and soulful living!
Suzanne
